Vascular Surgery
Our Clinic has expanded its surgical services to include endovenous laser ablation of varicose veins. Varicose veins are treated with the latest generation 1470-nm wavelength diode laser using the most effective and safest tulip-shaped fibre.
Laser Treatment Principle
The purpose of the laser treatment is to stop the blood flow in the diseased vein and allow blood to be rerouted to healthy veins. The 1470 nm diode laser targets the water in vein walls to collapse the walls and ensure complete vein closure. This is the main difference between the effects of the long wavelength and short wavelength laser beams. Using 1470 nm laser diodes is the alternative to the traditional laser treatment for varicose veins which targets the lining of the blood vessel to cause blood coagulation and destruction of the vein. The cone-shaped tulip catheter centres the laser fibre in the vein preventing direct contact with the vein wall. Thus prevention of direct contact between the fibre tip and the vein wall alows to avoid perforation of the vein wall. The use of the 1470 nm laser results in the fewest number of complications and a minimum of repeated operations. The mentioned endovenous surgical treatments are performed without any surgical cuts,. i.e., a laser fiber is inserted into the vein by piercing the skin. We cannot offer the lowest cost for our patients, our aim is to give them maximum comfort with the aid of the most advanced technologies. The surgery is completely painless. Postoperative care period takes only a few hours so you can resume your normal activities very soon. If your work does not involve physical exertion, you can return to work the next day. Usually the surgeon together with the patient schedule surgery at the end of the week so that the patient could go back to work on Monday. The mentioned advanced laser can remove damaged veins in all chronic venous insufficency stages. After surgery, you will be asked to wear compression stockings that help stimulate venous circulation and decrease risk of bruising. You should wear them about 1 month. Some bruising may appear but it will subside within 7-10 days.
After surgery, physical activity is not limited except weight lifting. If you plan an air travel after surgery, you should consult with your doctor to prevent possible thrombosis.
Postoperative complications are uncommon. Very rarely, you may notice swelling or experience some pain in your legs. If this occurs, tell your doctor immediately. To minimize the chances of complications, it is important that you follow the post-operative instructions carefully. If patients wish to have the base price of surgery reimbursed by the Mandatory Health Insurance Fund (PSDF), they must submit their family doctor or specialist‘s referral for the treatment. All patients are to have the following tests: general blood, blood coagulation, glucose, urinalysis and electrocardiogram (EKG). The results of these tests must be received no later than 2 weeks before the date of surgery.
You can have tests in our Clinic. Their cost is LTL 105. Your surgeon may require some additional biochemical tests. The results of the tests will be given to your surgeon and anaesthetist.
There may be different types of lasers and fibers available at various clinics, so we recommend that our patients ask what equipment will be used for surgery. Cost of surgery consultation is LTL 130. Vascular ultrasound analysis (sonoscopy) for 2 legs will cost LTL 160. Cost of laser removal treatment for varicose veins is as follows: LTL 1 800 for 1 leg and LTL 3 100 for 2 legs. Compensation, anaesthesia, ward care and compression stockings included.
